Q: What is the difference between DT and DTL terminals?
A: DT is a pure copper terminal used to connect copper cables to copper equipment;
DTL is a copper-to-aluminum transition terminal, with one end made of copper and the other of aluminum, used to connect aluminum cables to copper equipment.
Q: Why can’t DT terminals be used directly with aluminum wires?
A: Direct crimping of copper and aluminum causes electrochemical corrosion, which over time leads to overheating, loosening, and burning of the terminals. DTL copper-to-aluminum transition terminals must be used.
Q: Can DTL terminals be used with copper wires?
A: Yes, but it is not recommended. DT terminals provide better conductivity and lower cost for copper wires, while DTL terminals are specifically designed for aluminum wires.
Q: How do I select the correct model?
A: Select based on cable cross-section:
Copper cable → Select DT-XX
Aluminum cable → Select DTL-XX
Example: Use DT-50 for 50mm² copper wire and DTL-50 for aluminum wire.
Q: Are DTL copper-to-aluminum transition terminals prone to breaking?
A: Genuine products use friction welding or brazing, which provides high bond strength; they will not break under normal use.
Q: What should I pay attention to during crimping?
A: Ensure the wire is stripped to the correct length; the copper core must not be exposed.
