Q: What is the difference between DT and OT lugs?
A: DT is a tubular compression lug suitable for multi-strand conductors. OT is an open-nose lug suitable for single-strand or solid conductors. DT has larger contact area and better conductivity; OT is more convenient for installation and can be opened on-site.
Q: Can compression lugs be soldered?
A: Soldering is not recommended. Soldering destroys material structure and plating, causing voids and cracks. Use dedicated compression tools to ensure crimp quality.
Q: Why use hexagonal compression for large-section lugs?
A: Hexagonal compression creates six-point contact between lug and conductor, with large contact area and high compression density. Mechanical strength and electrical performance are superior to point compression or circumferential compression.
Q: What is the difference between tin-plated and silver-plated lugs?
A: Tin plating has lower cost and good anti-oxidation effect, suitable for general applications. Silver plating has higher conductivity and lower contact resistance, suitable for high-current or high-frequency applications, but at higher cost.
Q: What if the conductor pulls out from the lug after compression?
A: This indicates inadequate compression or die mismatch. Cut off the compressed section, re-strip and re-compress. Re-compression or makeshift use is prohibited.
Q: Why apply conductive grease before compression?
A: Conductive grease fills microscopic voids between conductor and lug, reducing contact resistance, preventing oxidation and corrosion, and reducing operating temperature rise.
